Your readers may blink in surprise, and gasp in astonishment…
… but you DO want to be that Writer!
Thanks to Geoffrey of Monmouth in the twelfth century, William Stukeley in the eighteenth, Madame Blavatsky in the nineteenth and Robert Graves in the twentieth (to name but a few), and to a number of sixteenth century writers who wanted to captivate readers with thrilling, hair-raising tales (and thereby increase sales of their books!) we now have all sorts of incorrect 'facts' about the Celts floating around.
But within minutes of reading The 33 Worst Mistakes Writers Make about the Celts by Lisa Lawler, YOU'LL have a solid foundation of who the Celts really were and how they viewed the world in which they lived.
For instance, did you know that:
- Celtic Druids weren't simply priests?
- The Celts invented mail shirts (incorrectly known as chain mail)?
- The Irish Celts had a very complex system of laws (commonly known as the Brehon Laws) which are believed to date from the Bronze Age?
- The Brehon Laws recognised at least nine different types of marriage?
- The Druids did NOT build Stonehenge or Newgrange?
The 33 Worst Mistakes Writers Make about the Celts reveals intriguing facts about:
- Celtic society and law;
- religious beliefs and practices;
- the Druids - who they were and what they did;
- what the Otherworld meant to the Celts;
- how they felt about death; and
- the main characters and themes in the literature of the Irish Celts.
As a Writer, you can use the truth to
create authentic
Celt-inspired plots!
- Do you know why one man might camp out and fast on another man's doorstep? Read Mistake Twenty-Five and find out!
- Do you know what a geis is? Mistake Thirty explains it and gives examples!
- Do you know what REALLY happened on Samhain? Mistake Twenty-Four explores this fire festival in detail!
- Do you know that King Arthur was NOT a medieval knight and king? Mistake Twenty-Seven will also explain why he never knew Merlin or a woman called Morgan le Fay!
- Do you know that the Celtic triple goddesses do NOT represent Maiden-Mother-Crone? Mistake Nineteen will explain why!
Read The 33 Worst Mistakes Writers Make about the Celts and write original stories that set you apart from all those other writers who got it wrong!
About the Author
Born and raised in Ireland, Lisa Lawler has had an abiding interest in the Celtic culture and landscape in which she grew up ever since she learned about Fionn Mac Chumhaill and the Fianna and the exploits of Cuchulainn as a young child. She has visited many of the ancient archaeological sites in Ireland that feature prominently in Celtic history and mythology and has read anything she can get her hands on, fiction and non-fiction alike, that deals with the Celts. She is now living in Western Australia with her husband and working on her first novel.
