Based on facts, the novel tells the story of Ann Angel Waldmann whose father decides to accept their Counts offer to buy their freedom. It is set in the rural area around Osnabrück at the turn of the 18th century, a time when old values are questioned. In spite of new ideas, individual freedom is a frightening dream for most people. It is a time of change, where Ann Angel Waldmann, daughter of a rich farmer, has to cope with the obstacles life puts in her way.

About the Authors

Both born in the summer of 1968, they became friends during their time at the University of Göttingen.

For Anke, this novel was the start of intensive research on her family history. She is still living on a farm near Osnabrück.

Katharina has had several short stories published. She is currently writing her third novel. She lives with her husband and three daughters south of Hannover.
