I got my start as a freelancer...and it was the best decision I had ever made in my life.

Allow me to briefly tell you my story. I think you will find it most inspirational.

I was out of work and close to being homeless. At my age at the time (45) it was hard to find work. I finally realized that a conventional job was probably no longer an option.

I sat down and tried to think of what I could possibly do. I had skills. I'd been writing for over 25 years of my life. There had to be something I could do with these skills.

I Turned To The Internet

My last job as a QA Manager required extensive use of the Internet to research current materials related to our industry and download relevant reports. When I lost my job I already had some knowledge of how to navigate the search engines and find things.

So I began looking for work.

My search took me to places like Monster.com and other job search sites. But these were just more jobs that I wasn't qualified to do. I couldn't even get an employer to give me an interview.

I'm sure this is sounding very familiar to you as well.

I Found My Salvation

If that sounds a bit dramatic...it's not. I was close to being homeless. But fortunately I found the answer I was looking for.

It was a site that was willing to pay you for writing articles for them. This was definitely something I could do. I had plenty of samples of my writing that I could show.

To make a long story short...I started writing. My writing was so good that I started getting numerous requests.

Eventually I had developed a substantial customer base and was making very good money.

I had become a freelancer.

There's one thing you don't have...a boss.

There is nobody to drag you out of bed in the morning. YOU have to do that on your own. If there is a customer waiting for an assignment to be completed YOU have to get it done.

Nobody is going to do it for you...or tell you it has to be done.

Some people need that boss telling them what to do and when to do it.
